Disclaimer
My parents and I are in no way advocating for you to keep an indoor duck. Ducks are meant to be outdoor animals. My life is a very special circumstance that is not a standard way to keep pet ducks. Having pet ducks a big commitment and my parents are well aware not everyone is up for the challenge. Please, if you are considering a pet duck, make sure you have the proper means. Our friends over at Ducks of Providence have tons of great information on keeping and caring for ducks.
Living the Indoor Duck Life: Tips and Tricks from a Happy Muscovy Duck
Hello, fellow duck enthusiasts! 🦆
I’m here to share my story and some tips on how my amazing parents have made indoor duck life so much easier and enjoyable for all of us. If you’re considering bringing a duck indoors or already have one, these insights might just quack you up!
Creating a Duck-Friendly Home
My parents have gone above and beyond to make our home comfortable for me. They laid down soft foam mats and covered them with washable, waterproof blankets, particularly the FurHaven Waterproof Cat & Dog Blanket Protector from Chewy. This setup makes cleaning up my messes a breeze! They also use a lot of baby wipes and Clorox wipes to keep everything clean and sanitized.
The Frisco Washable Dog Potty Pads from Chewy are my favorite for under my food and in odd spots around the house. My parents easily do at least one load of laundry a day, if not upwards of three or four. Trust me, a clean home is a happy home!
Feeding Time: A Balanced Diet
When it comes to my diet, my parents make sure I’m getting all the nutrients I need. They feed me Purina duck pellets mixed with oats and grit. Grit are tiny fortified rocks that aid with my digestion. To ensure I’m in tip-top shape, they also sprinkle a special mix of brewer’s yeast with garlic powder and niacin on my food. And when I’m laying eggs, they make sure I get plenty of oyster shells. It’s like having my own personal nutritionist!

Treats and Enrichments
I must say, I’m a lucky duck when it comes to treats. Some of my favorites are peas, watermelon, and romaine lettuce. But it doesn’t stop there; I enjoy blueberries, strawberries, grapes, tomatoes, and pomegranates; these healthy treats keep me happy and satisfied. But I’m also a big fan of human treats, and when my parents are eating Cheez-Its, and go kind of nuts. They make sure not to give me too much, but I sneak some when I can.

But it’s not just about food; my parents also provide plenty of enrichment to keep me active and entertained. From toys to interactive games, there’s never a dull moment in my ducky life.
Here’s a clip of me playing on one of my snuffle mats. I love these things! I have three so far. 🥰
Living My Best Indoor Duck Life
Thanks to my parents’ dedication and love, I’m living my best life indoors. I roam freely, just like a pet dog or cat, and I couldn’t be happier. We wouldn’t recommend having an indoor duck, but if you’re interested in keeping ducks (the normal way), remember that it’s all about creating a safe, clean, and enriching environment. With the right care and attention, your ducks can thrive, just like I do.
